NHCLC Strongly Supports the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015
SACRAMENTO, California, April 13, 2015 – The National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference Strongly Supports the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015.
As details on the Iran agreement are brought to light, we as Christian leaders, representing millions of American Hispanic Evangelicals in 40,000 churches, are gravely concerned that the Administration is moving towards a deal that would allow Iran to remain a nuclear – threshold state. Reverend Samuel Rodriguez, President of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NHCLC) states, “The prospect of an Iranian nuclear weapon is the single greatest threat to America’s national security.”
Pastor Mario Bramnick, President of the Hispanic Israel Leadership Coalition, part of the NHCLC adds, “We must ensure that the Iranian regime does not have the tools to build a single bomb. Iran’s leaders have consistently lied about their quest for nuclear weapons. They cannot be trusted.”
Congress must ensure that the Administration is getting the best deal possible for both the United States and for our ally Israel. Their review of the agreement will only serve to strengthen the President’s efforts. That’s why The National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NHCLC) strongly supports the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015, a bill which gives Congress a 60 day review period, prohibiting any statutory sanctions relief if Congress passes a joint resolution disapproving the agreement, and requires the President to notify Congress if there is accurate information indicating a breach of any agreement.
We commend congress for their past bipartisan legislation to stop Iran from nuclear capability. We urge all our elected officials, both Democrat and Republican, to continue their work to completely dismantle Iran’s ability to build a bomb and to ensure that any agreement signed on Iran’s nuclear program be ratified by Congress. The consent of Congress will help to ensure that this agreement has the American people’s approval and endures through future administrations.
Already, Iran Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei insists that the US lift all sanctions on Iran the day an agreement is signed. He goes on to say, “Americans put out a statement just a few hours after our negotiators finished their talks … this statement, which they called a ‘fact sheet’, was wrong on most of the issues.” Iranian leaders have also repeatedly threatened to “wipe Israel off the map.”
We should take them at their word as they seek to develop nuclear weapons that could be used against the Jewish state and the United States. Iran, as the world’s most prolific sponsor of terrorism, will only grow in power and influence if its nuclear infrastructure is not dismantled.
The Hispanic Israel Leadership Coalition’s vision is to establish the largest and most influential Pro-Israel Latino entity to build a firewall against anti-Semitism and the Campaign to Delegitimize the Nation of Israel and to activate Hispanic Evangelicals to be the most “Pro-Israel, Pro-Jewish” demographic. The Hispanic Israel Leadership Coalition is a subsidiary of the NHCLC/CONEL.
NHCLC/CONELA is the world’s largest Hispanic Christian organization. It serves as a representative voice for the more than 100 million Hispanic Evangelicals assembled in over 40,000 U.S. churches and another 500,000 congregations spread throughout the Spanish-speaking diaspora.
