This year’s AIPAC Policy Conference 2016 saw over 18,500 delegates gather together in Washington DC to show their support of the Nation of Israel.   Reverend Juan Rivera, Advisory Board Member of HILC represented HILC at this year’s AIPAC Policy Conference joining a panel of leaders speaking on the topic Future Trends: The Next Generation of Pro-Israel Christian Leaders.

Evangelical Christians have long supported a strong U.S.-Israel relationship. However, will this trend remain true among the next generation, as they move into positions of leadership? What are the trends among evangelicals, regarding their advocacy for Israel? This panel brought together a group of dynamic, young evangelicals involved in the pro-Israel movement. As future Christian leaders, they addressed these issues and discussed what they are doing to ensure continued evangelical support for Israel.

Reverend Rivera shared the importance of local communities and the role leaders play in determining how their local communities will stand with Israel and Jewish people worldwide. Reverend Rivera said, “Beyond the work we do on a national level, we must insure that where we live, shop, worship, and go to school, at the micro-level of our local communities…we as leaders in every sphere of influence must determine what will and what won’t be allowed in regards to Israel.”

“This can be accomplished,” said Reverend Rivera, “by adhering to three things:

  1. Education – Whether through one on one mentoring, seminars, or conferences we must educate our communities.
  2. Relationships – Israel and our Jewish friends must have a face and a name. We must foster relationships with those in our Jewish community to build trust and common ground and work towards issues we agree on.
  3. Activism – we must creatively work together in our communities to build a firewall against anti-Semitism. “

HILC received very positive feedback from the delegates at the session and from AIPAC leadership. Through HILC we will activate the next generation of Hispanic Evangelicals to be the largest and most passionate Pro-Israel demographic in support of Israel.
